in the mind). Each episode was nearly 40 minutes.

on the Web Series: Indian classical singer Radhe and pop star Tamanna. Despite
their contrasting personalities, the two "set out together on a journey of
self-discovery to see if opposites, though they might attract, can also adapt
and go the long haul.

About the
Title of the series: Bandish is a
melodic composition in Hindustani vocal or instrumental music. It is set in a
specific raga, performed with rhythmic accompaniment by a Tabla or Pakhawaj, a
steady drone, and melodic accompaniment by a Sarangi, violin or harmonium.
Bandit means a member of a gang or
marauding band – (the latter in this context)
First let me
tell you my first expression about the Inspiring Web Series: This is the best ‘Musical Drama’ I have ever
watched in TV - I have literally no
words to praise the plot and outline of the story, music, the cast, aesthetic
locations, awesome and relevant costumes. I must say that the series offer absolutely
amazing and awesome music, the chemistry between the 2 leads, excellent acting
by the veterans like Naseeruddin Shah and Atul Kulkarni. If you like Indian
Classic music and some romance – you must watch. It is truly a refreshing change from the
regular and usual trend of thriller, action and crime – this one can be watched
with family (but for certain dirty dialogues of millennial). No fights, No
blood-shed, No chasing of cars, No long dialogues etc.
My views in
detail: When all us are imprisoned at
home because of the pandemic situation, this panoramic visual treat offers
indirect joy of experiencing the remarkable splendour of Rajasthan. The rich
traditions, ornate temples and active markets are a treat to eyes. Though the
same kinds of stuff were already produced as movies sucha as Abhimaan, Hum Dil
De Chuke Sanam or perhaps A Star is Born etc, this is definitely daringly
different. This is not a physical battle or battle of swords or words. It’s
simply musical in every way – it taps into a genre of music truly unexplored in
the commercial Hindi film arena – the Hindustani Classical. The music
throughout the series was exhilarating, joyful and very significantly pure.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was in disguise in the form of Pandit Radhemohan Rathod
(Naseeruddin Shah). Atul Kulkarni is no less in his performance. Nevertheless I
was very impressed with the performances of Shreya Chaudhary and Ritwik Bhowmik
(Bandish Bandits).
The show
focuses on traditional versus modernity, purity versus commercialisation,
Indian Classical music and electro –Pop. It also shows how the ‘gharana’ is
saved at the end. It might have certain flaws for the ‘technical film critics
or pundits’; yet it is undoubtedly worth a while.
As a South
Indian, I have enjoyed watching films like Thillana Mohanambal, Salangai Oli,
Shankarabharanam, (totally on music and classical art). But this one is
definitely different and very distinct.
Final
remarks: We have seen ‘Shankarabaranam’ as the main raga in the movie
‘Shankarabharanam’. We have also seen ‘Thodi’ as the main raga in the film
‘Thodi Ragam’. Even in ‘Unnal Mudiyum Thambi’ – it was Bilaharai raga (Bilahari
Marthandam Pillai) in Tamil movies. This web-weries focuses on the Raag ‘Basant
Bahar’ – a compound melodic structure that incorporates phrases from the raags Basant
and Bahar – the raagas that define the arrival of spring in Northern part of
India. The show reveals that the Pandit practiced the raag for over 25 years
and he is a “Padma” award winner – a celebrated singer who is also a strict
disciplinarian who believes in the purity of music and he hates the filthy
lucre or light music kind. So, be
prepared for the ‘pure’ classical music in the series. In every episode, you
will find a song or a practising session or a performance.

பந்திஷ் பண்டிட்ஸ் - ஹிந்தி வெப் சீரிஸ்
இந்த உலகடங்கு தொற்றுநோய் பேரிடர் கொரோனா காலத்தில் வீட்டிற்குள் முடங்கிக் கிடக்கும் பொழுது - தொழில் நலிவு ஏற்பட்டு இருக்கும் தருவாயில், வருவாய் இல்லாத நிலையில் - ஏதோ ஒன்று செய்து நமது உடல் மற்றும் உள்ளத்தை உற்சாகமாக வைத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டுமே.
அந்த வகையில் தமிழ், மலையாளம், தெலுங்கு மற்றும் ஹிந்தி படங்கள் பல பார்த்து முடித்தாயிற்று. பிறகு 'பேமிலி மேன்' என்ற ஒரு மிலிட்டரி வெப் சீரீஸ் பார்த்து முடித்து மகிழ்ந்த தருணம் தான் வழக்கம் போல மீடியா மாணவியாக இருக்கும் எனது மகள் கேட்டாள் : "அப்பா 'பந்திஷ் பண்டிட்ஸ்' என்று ஒரு புதிய வெப் சீரிஸ் - முழுக்க முழுக்க சாஸ்திரிய சங்கீதம் குறித்து வந்திருக்கிறது. மொத்தம் 10 எபிசோட். ஒவ்வொன்றும் சுமார் 40 நிமிடம். உனக்கு பிடித்த நசீருதீன் ஷா மற்றும் பலர் நடித்துள்ளனர். நம்ம ஷங்கர் மஹாதேவன் தான் இசை மற்றும் பாடல்கள். பிடிச்சா தொடர்ந்து பார்க்கலாம். என்ன சொல்றே?" நானும் சரி என்றேன். ஆனால் முதல் எபிசோட் தொடங்கியவுடன் நான் நினைத்துக் கூடப் பார்க்கவில்லை, சற்றும் அசையாமல் மொத்த 10 எபிசோடும் பார்ப்பேன் என்று.
அது தான் நடந்தது. அந்த அளவிற்கு கதைக்களம், நடிகர்களின் நடிப்பு, இசை, ராஜஸ்தான் மாநிலத்தின் அழகு அரண்மனை மற்றும் கோவில்கள், மிக அற்புதமான கேமரா, கேட்க கேட்க மனதை வருடும் அருமையான பாடல்கள், கண்ணைக் கவரும் உடைகள், செழிப்பான ஷூட்டிங் லொகேஷன் எல்லாமே கட்டிப்போடுகின்றன என்பதில் எந்த சந்தேகமும் இல்லை.
நாம் ஏற்கனவே தில்லானா மோகனாம்பாள், சலங்கை ஒலி, சங்கராபரணம், தோடி ராகம், உன்னால் முடியும் தம்பி என்று பல இசை சம்பந்தமான திரைப்படங்கள் பார்த்திருக்கிறோம். இருப்பினும் இது நிச்சயம் வேறு. அதற்கும் மேல் என்று சொல்லாவிட்டாலும், நிச்சயம் மிகவும் மென்மையான மேன்மையான ஒரு படைப்பு.
நாம் இங்கே தஞ்சாவூர் பந்ததி, மைசூர் பந்ததி என்று கர்நாடக சங்கீதத்தில் சொல்லுவது போல இந்த தொடரில் 'பிகானீர் கரானா' என்று ராஜஸ்தான் சம்பிரதாய சங்கீதம் மற்றும் அதில் பண்டிதராக இருக்கும் ஒரு குடும்பத்தின் கதை இது. ஒரு பிறவிக் கலைஞன் (அல்லது மழலை மேதை என்போமே) எப்படி அந்த பண்டிதரின் இசை வாரிசாக மாறுகிறார் என்பதே கதை.
கதாநாயகனின் வாழ்வில் பற்பல சவால்கள், காதல், இசை, வாழ்க்கை போராட்டம், புதிய முயற்சிகள், பாப் இசை கலைஞரோடு (கதயநாயகி) இணைந்து புதிய வடிவ இசை மூலம் தற்கால சமூக வலைத்தளம் மூலம் எப்படி பிரபலம் ஆகிறான், அதைத் தாண்டி தனது சொந்த சித்தப்பாவுடன் பாட்டுப் போட்டி செய்து எப்படி அந்த விருதை வென்று குடும்ப கௌரவத்தை மீட்டு எடுக்கிறான் என்கிற கதை.
சங்கராபரணம், தோடி, பிலஹரி போன்ற ராகங்கள் எப்படி மேற்சொன்ன தென்னிந்திய படங்களில் வருகிறதோ அப்படி இந்த தொடரில் 'வஸந்த் பஹார்' என்ற (இரு ராகங்களின் சங்கமம் - நமது மோகன கல்யாணி போல) பிரதானமாக இருக்கிறது. இந்த ராகம் வசந்த காலத்தில் பாடக்கூடிய ஒரு ராகம். அதுவும் தொடர் தலைப்பில் வருகிற 'பந்திஷ்' என்றால் ஒரு ஹிந்துஸ்தானி சங்கீதத்தின் ஒரு மெலோடி பாடல் வகை எனலாம். இது தபலா, சாரங்கி போன்ற இசை வாத்தியங்களோடு பாடப்படுகிற ஒன்று.
உங்களுக்கு சண்டை, ரத்தம், கார் துரத்தல், சத்தம், அடிதடி, நிறைய வசனம், கதையே இல்லாத படங்கள், பழி வாங்குதல், அலுத்துப் போய் விட்டதா? உங்களுக்கு இசை, காதல், மென்மையான லொகேஷன், நல்ல கதையம்சம் என்று இவை எல்லாம் பிடிக்குமா ? நிச்சயம் நீங்கள் இந்த தொடரைப் பார்க்க வேண்டும். மொழி புரியவில்லை என்பவருக்கு சப் டைட்டில் உண்டு. நிச்சயம் உங்களுக்கு இது ஒரு புதிய நல்லதொரு அனுபவமாக இருக்கும். அமேசானில் கண்டு மகிழுங்கள்.
இதில் நசிருதீன் ஷா தவிர, தமிழ் படங்களில் வில்லனாக நாம் பார்த்திருக்கும் அதுல் குல்கர்னி, மற்றும் புது முகங்கள் ஸ்ரேயா சவுத்திரி, ரித்விக் பௌமிக் முக்கிய வேடங்களில் நடித்து உள்ளார்கள். ஸ்ரீராம் கணபதி என்பவர் கேமரா இயக்கம், மற்றும் நம்ம ஷங்கர் மஹாதேவன் இசை. நாம் ஏற்கனவே கேட்டு இருக்கும் ஜாவித் அலியும் பாடி இருக்கிறார்.
