On
Self Actualization
There is an expression by Shri
Khushwant Singh on this:
"Sab Kuch Paa liya tujhe paa
kar ...utae nahin haath mere iss dua kae bath...!"
Means After you have
got/accomplished/achieved everything, you do not ask/pray for anything more.
There is a state of fulfillment/content-feel
in the mind. Also the stage of
'unattached' - surely not a saint or sanyasi.
At this stage, we can still do something useful(usefully occupied) but without any target/pressure on our-self.
At this stage, we can still do something useful(usefully occupied) but without any target/pressure on our-self.
It is said that:
Unused machinery gets rusted
Unused time dies
Unused money devalues
Unused potential decays
Unused knowledge becomes a burden
What is not used is abused...!
Therefore even in the
self-actualization stage, we can perform, do something - but without any
disappointment/expectation/without looking for recognition
It is like the Donkey-The Guru -
stage.
Donkey carries the dirty clothes in
the morning and carries the cleaned ones in the evening - but the facial
expression remains the same.
Means - happiness, sadness, success,
failure, satisfaction, disappointment - it has no meaning at a stage. We get
liberated from all these.
Many may question whether it is
practically possible. Yes it is...! We can take the example of Ratan Tata,
Narayanamoorthy..!
Generally people get into spiritual
or social activities.
Spiritual - could be attending
Bhajan concerts, visiting temples, pilgrimage, doing pooja at home,
participating and contributing in Annadhan etc,
Some even get into reading of
spiritual books, giving discourses, become alternative therapy masters (free
service), heal people, become yoga masters etc.
When it is Social - they get into
NGOs as Volunteers - in orphanages, homes etc.
In short - people get into Bakthi
marg, or Karma marg....and the journey continues.
It is surely better to avoid
watching soaps, TV news etc - after deciding to take a turn in the journey.
"Being unique" is required
to succeed in Material life
"To shun uniqueness
and getting into oneness" is the starting point of
"self-actualization"
"I am nothing...I
am part of the Universe....I am not here to carve for recognition/admiration/rank/title"
is the process point of the next step
"I am not under
pressure or with a goal to do this and that...I am simply performing and
whatever happens is just incidental" is slight improvement.
Rest would happen in
this journey.
If there is a feeling of
worry for 'tomorrow' - I have not earned enough, saved enough, done
enough...surely the rocket is not yet built...!
Contentment is the
'state of mind'. Differs from individual to individual - though we are in the
material world and "money" is the universal language.
Setting higher standards
on and on...would only bring jealousy, dissatisfaction, stress, anxiety,
frustration, self-defeat, self-doubt, and feel of failure.
At one stage - surely
not out of frustration - we must stop setting target on us.
Let the journey be
on...Feeling of content would naturally happen.
That day any
success/recognition would not go into heart or mind. We shall own that success
on that day. We may just smile and move on.
We can recall A R Rahman at the young age said after receiving the Oscars " all credit goes to Allah"
We can recall A R Rahman at the young age said after receiving the Oscars " all credit goes to Allah"
We can recall Dhoni
giving away the World Cup to other colleagues after winning it and stepping away
from the group photo even....!
We have heard from
Sachin, SPB ...that they have not done anything special. Humility is the
starting point for 'self-actualization' - is my humble view.
Feel of content, Feeling Satisfied or accomplished
is a conscious feeling or state of the mind towards the journey of
'Self-actualization'
But watching TV or soaps is an unconscious act in a place of stay where it could happen because of others' intervention/influence.
My point was - not to indulge ourselves in that act as the unconscious and repeated inputs through the 5 elements of our body have the power of altering thoughts.
Therefore we must consciously avoid and stay away from the repeated/unwanted inputs through print and electronic media to focus our journey...!
External factors sometimes hinder the 'naturally happen' state and obviously it has to be 'made to happen’...!
