A proud Grand father - a fitnes freek

It was around 6.15 am. The calling bell rang. The Cat was out of the bag. Yes it was my good 'old' friend - just 85+ years young - Mr. Narayanaswamy, the fitness king and also the grand father of 'Arjuna' Cricketer Ashwin Ravichandran. He always used to say 'hello' on his way to his several rounds of walking. 10 days back when I met him, he was slightly upset that his grandson Ashwin was dropped from the playing eleven. I just told him that he would be rewarded for sure for his dedication, commitment and hard work. Truly, the next match he was selected; though he did not do well in bowling, he scored some 40+ runs as a batsman. Today this great man came to our house simply to thank me and my family for wishing Ashwin the due good luck as he has been conferred with the prestigious 'Arjuna' Award by the Government - the committee headed by Sri Kapildev ji. Grandpa was extremely happy when he shared this news. When I offered him coffee, he just said - "I do not take coffee or tea but take a glass of milk ...that too once in the morning. He immediately posed for a photograph as requested by me and started to walk after blessing me and my wife. How sweet of him. I admire his continued spirit for fitness and good health. Really not sure how I would be when I am 60+. Pray for his good health, harmony and peace of mind.
விடுமுறை நாட்களில் காலை 6 மணி கூட அதிகாலை தானே. அழைப்பு மணி சத்தம் கேட்டு வெளியே வந்தேன். உடன் என் மனைவியும் தான். வெளியில் "குட் மார்னிங்" என்ற படி தனது வாக்கிங் உடையில் ஷூவுடன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தது எனது 85+ வயது இளைஞர் friend உயர்திரு நாராயணசாமி அவர்கள். அவர் எங்கள் வீட்டு வழி வாக்கிங் போகும் போதெல்லாம் ஒரு ஹலோ சொல்லி விட்டு நடையை கட்டுவார். ஒரு பத்து நாள் முன்னால் என்னை பார்த்து சற்று அலுத்துக் கொண்டார். தனது பேரன் விளையாடும் பதினொன்றில் இல்லை என்று. நான் சொன்னேன், "கவலைப் படாதீர்கள் எப்படியும் உங்கள் பேரன் டீமுக்குள் வந்து விடுவான்." அதே போல் வந்தாலும் பாட்டிங் ஆடிய அளவு பெளலிங்கில் சிறக்க வில்லை. இருப்பினும் இன்று காலை அவர் வந்த விஷயமே வேறு. "பாலா" உங்களுக்கும் உங்கள் குடும்பத்திற்கும் மிக்க நன்றி...உங்களைப் போல நல்லவர்களின் வாழ்த்து பலித்து விட்டது. என் பேரன் அஷ்வினுக்கு "அர்ஜுனா" விருது கிடைத்து உள்ளது. ரொம்ப சந்தோஷமாக உள்ளது. கபில்தேவ் அவர்கள் தலைமையில் அமைக்கப்பட்ட கமிட்டி என் பேரனைத் தேர்வு செய்துள்ளனர் என்றார். உடனே போட்டோவிற்கு போஸ் கொடுத்தார். காபி குடிக்கிறீர்களா என்றேன். பால் மட்டும் ஒரு முறை காலையில் குடிப்பேன். அவ்வளவு தான் என்றவர் என்னையும் என் மனைவியையும் வாழ்த்தி ஆசி கூறி விட்டு வேகமாக நடக்க ஆரம்பித்தார். இந்த வயதில் என்ன நடை. அப்படியே ஒரு பாஸ்ட் போர்வர்ட் போட்டு யோசித்தேன் அறுபது வயதில் நான் எப்படி இருப்பேன் என்று. பிரமிப்பில் அஷ்வின் தாத்தாவிற்கு மனதார பாராட்டையும் பிரார்த்தனையும் வைத்தேன். பிட்நெஸ் தாத்தா...அது தான் பிட்நெஸ் பேரன் என்று போற்றினேன் மனதிற்குள்...!
